Mobile operators offer Short Message Service (SMS) between networks
Lisbon, 03 February 2000 As of 1st February, Portugal’s three cellular operators – TMN, Telecel and Optimus have begun offering the Short Message Service (SMS) between each of their networks.
Users of this service can now send short messages of up to 160 characters each to Customers of the three cellular operators. This service has until now been restricted to users within the same network.
It is available to Customers of all three operators irrespective of where they are both nationally and internationally. It can be used abroad through roaming.
The agreement between operators demonstrates Portugal’s dedication to mobile communications, which reflects the fact that it has one of the highest penetration rates in Europe.
Customers of the three mobile networks can now exchange short messages and benefit from the promotional rates, which are:
