Telecel launches Vitamina with WAP technology

Telecel launches today the Vitamina T Siemens C35, a prepaid product for mobile access to the Internet using WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) technology.

Vitamina T is available with the new Siemens C35 handset, which is the smallest and lightest WAP enabled handset on sale in Portugal at the moment. This dual band handset has other unique features including vibration call, customised pictures for better call identification, and simplified SMS. Vitamina T Siemens C35 is available at 29,900 PTE (149.14 EUR), with 5,000 PTE (24.94 EUR) of airtime included.

Telecel previously introduced WAP technology into Portugal, and last week launched the second version of its mobile Internet service which now includes features such as a dictionary in both Portuguese and English. Shortly the WAP version of the TeleMultibanco service and the first on-line brokerage service developed in partnership with Banco 7 will be available.

Analysts are forecasting that the majority of future access to the Internet will be via cellular phones. Telecel intends be at the forefront of the mobile data revolution in Portugal, and foresees that in about 3 to 5 years, 20% of its revenues will come from data transmission, which includes mobile access to the Internet, SMS and fax.
