New Information Technologies

University of the Minho and Vodafone Portugal Foundation sign Co-operation Agreement

Lisbon, 7 February 2007 – The University of the Minho and Vodafone today signed a co-operation agreement to further the use of new communication technologies, in particular mobile technologies integrated with information systems.

Under the agreement, a contract – the first of its kind in Portugal – was also signed to implement an SMS (text message) system aimed at establishing a more rapid and closer relationship between the University and its students, professors and lecturers, and other employees. To implement this first practical outcome of the agreement, the Vodafone Portugal Foundation has donated a million SMS to the University of the Minho, as well as providing specialist advice in this area.

Signed in Braga by the Rector of the University of the Minho, António José Marques Guimarães Rodrigues, and the Chairman of the Vodafone Portugal Foundation, António de Lacerda Carrapatoso, the agreement also covers co-operation and the exchange of information about research into innovation in new information technologies.
