Vodafone launches messaging service for hi5

Vodafone Portugal today launched a new messaging service for hi5, making it the first operator in Europe and one of the first in the world to offer interaction with this social network via text messaging (SMS) and multimedia messaging (MMS).

Thanks to this new partnership with hi5, Vodafone customers, via a simple text message, can now carry out on their mobile phone the operations that they perform most frequently on the hi5 website – such as updating their status, checking their list of friends and whether they are online, and finding out the status of friends, among other things.

This text message service will also allow them to receive a range of alerts, also by SMS, about comments on their profile, new friend requests and new messages received, among other operations, as well as giving them direct access to the mobile site of hi5.

It will also be possible to post photographs or videos sent via MMS, which will be immediately on the hi5 site.

To activate this new service, customers simply need to send an SMS to the number 12600 containing the text ‘Activate’ followed by their hi5 username (or email) and password, separated by a space.

All alerts received on mobile phones are free until 30 June 2010, and will cost just 1 cent after that date. Sending a text message will cost 5 cents. Sending photos or videos will cost 20 cents per MMS sent.

The launch of this service is part of Vodafone’s major investment in mobile-PC convergence, enabling its customers to use the services they are used to regardless of the form of access, and with a simple and transparent user experience.
