Vodafone launches first 4G tablet in Portugal

Vodafone Portugal today launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE – the first 4G/LTE-ready tablet available in Portugal. This tablet can connect to the recently launched 4G technology, supporting speeds of up to 100 Mbps.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE comes with the Android Honeycomb operating system (the Android version specifically designed for tablets) and includes a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 16 GB of internal memory and an 8.9” TFT touchscreen.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE arrives in Vodafone shops and its online shop today at a price of €569.90. It is also available on special terms for professional and business customers.

To enable users to take full advantage of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE and enjoy the benefits of 4G technology, Vodafone is offering the Best Net 4G price plans with download speeds up to 50 Mbps or 100 Mbps, with monthly charges of €49.99 and €59.99 respectively. Vodafone is offering a 50% discount on these charges for 24 months to customers who purchase the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE and subscribe to these plans.

Following the launch in June 2011 of the first 4G mobile device (the Vodafone Connect Pen K5005), Vodafone is breaking new ground again with the launch of this 4G tablet, and will continue to release other 4G mobile devices as they become commercially available.

As with earlier mobile communications technologies, Vodafone is leading the development of 4G in Portugal, providing the country with ultra-high bandwidth infrastructures to meet increasing demand in terms of speed and data volumes and providing new services to its customers via smartphones, tablets, laptops and other devices.
