Vodafone Foundation launches Good Mobile Europe Awards

Applications are being invited by 15 October for the first edition of the European mobile apps competition, Mobile for Good Europe Awards, organised by the Vodafone Foundation. The competition aims to encourage the development of apps for the Android and iOS operating systems which improve the quality of people’s lives and demonstrate substantial public benefit.

The Mobile for Good Europe Awards, organised in partnership with AGE Platform Europe and the European Disability Forum, will reward applications in the categories of Health, Accessibility, Education and Mobility in Public Services with total prize money of €200,000 for the development of the winning applications. In each of the four categories in the competition, the winner will receive €30,000, the second placed app €15,000 and the third €5,000.

The Mobile for Good Europe Awards follows the success of the Smart Accessibility Awards organised by the Vodafone Foundation in 2011 and 2012, which rewarded Android apps for the elderly and disabled. In 2011, the winning application in the Health category (‘Help Talk’) was developed by a Portuguese programmer.

The awards ceremony for the winners will be held in Brussels on 5 December.
