Vodafone expands fixed services through partnership with dstelecom

Fibre reaches Alto Minho and Interior Norte municipalities courtesy of Vodafone

From today Vodafone is bringing advanced television, internet and fixed voice services via fibre for the first time to 44 municipalities in Portugal’s Alto Minho and Interior Norte regions as the result of a partnership with dstelecom, using over nine thousand kilometres of fibre laid in the North, Alentejo and Algarve Next Generation Networks (NGNs) at a cost of around 108 million euros.

The rollout of Vodafone fixed services over the rural fibre networks constructed by dstelecom will begin in the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Paredes da Coura, Ponte da Barca and Tabuaço and will be progressively extended to a total of 79 municipalities in the North and South of Portugal, serving more than 200,000 homes.

This important step represents further progress by Vodafone with its recently announced plan to achieve coverage of 1.5 million homes with its own network by mid-2015, positioning it increasingly as the operator of choice in the fixed network where, according to several independent surveys conducted by Marktest, Vodafone has the highest satisfaction rates in the majority of parameters analysed.
