Vodafone launches mobile ticketing service with exclusive entry to Rock in Rio-Lisboa

Lisbon, 8 March 2010 – Vodafone Portugal today launched a mobile ticketing service that enables its customers to buy and receive tickets to Rock in Rio-Lisboa on their mobile phones and giving them access to the biggest world’s music and entertainment event using an exclusive Vodafone entrance.

As from today, Vodafone customers will be able to purchase tickets to Rock in Rio-Lisboa via the Vodafone live! portal or the Vodafone Apps Shop.

This is the first edition of Rock in Rio anywhere in the world to introduce the alternative of exclusively virtual tickets, dispensing with the traditional paper ticket. Among the advantages is the opportunity to buy tickets without having to leave home or at the last minute or of forwarding the ticket to a friend if the customer is unable to attend.

After selecting the date (or dates) on which the customer wishes to attend the event and the number of tickets needed, all that remains is to pay by MB Phone (which can be activated at any Multibanco ATM). After validation of the user’s details, the ticket is received instantly via SMS together with a unique code which will permit entry to the City of Rock on the selected days for the stated number of people by means of an optical reader installed at the exclusive Vodafone entrance at the gates to the site.

With the introduction of this innovative, easy-to-use service, developed in conjunction with Send It, the technological partner in this project, Vodafone is extending the range of the solutions it offers to its customers, improving their convenience and reinforcing its association with the most important music event in Portugal in 2010.

This launch is part of Vodafone’s strategy for the development of e-commerce so as to make its customers’ day-to-day lives easier through the use of mobile phones as an alternative to traditional means of payment and entry to events.
