Vodafone launches competition for Mobile Internet start-ups

Lisbon, 27 July 2010 – Vodafone today announced the launch of Vodafone Mobile Clicks 2010, a competition to find and reward the best mobile Internet project created by a start-up. The competition, the biggest of its kind in the world, will take place in three European countries: the Netherlands, Portugal and the UK.

The competition is open to any newly created company or company in the start-up phase that wishes to present its best idea for a mobile portal, service or application. To participate, entrants simply need to submit their entry to www.vodafonemobileclicks.com by 22 August 2010. Vodafone will award a total of 150,000 euros in prizes.

Each application will be judged by a panel composed of Vodafone representatives and industry experts against the following criteria: originality, creativity and innovation, technical, operational and financial feasibility, value to users and quality of the management team. The finalists – one from each participating country – will be invited to represent their country at a grand final to be held at the PICNIC media, entertainment and technology festival in the Netherlands on 24 September 2010.

At this final, the best project submitted in the competition will be selected and announced and will win a prize of 100,000 euros. The runner-up will receive a prize of 50,000 euros.

Vodafone Mobile Clicks is a Vodafone initiative intended as a launching pad for innovative projects and companies in the Mobile Internet area in Europe. In addition to rewarding the best ideas, the competition aims to identify and to highlight high quality projects from start-ups that would not otherwise find it easy to break into the market. Participants will also have the opportunity to establish business contacts with all the parties involved in the event and mark themselves out as examples of entrepreneurship.
