- Fixed line customers grew to 670 thousand (+11% YoY)
From April to June, the first quarter of fiscal year 2018-2019, Vodafone Portugal continued to grow in the main business indicator – Service Revenue – mainly backed by the consistent double digit growth in the fixed service.
Service Revenue reached 239 million euros, what represents a growth of 3.6% considering the same period last year.
During Q1 the number of mobile customers settled in 4.6 million, of which 1.8 million are 4G customers (+25% YoY). Smartphone penetration in the active customer base reached 74.6%.
Fixed business continues to register a double digit growth, with the customer base increasing 11% YoY, reaching 670 thousand customers. Facing a background of full convergence, Vodafone Portugal is the operator that has been growing the most during the past four years, in net terms, in Pay TV (according to data from Anacom).
“These results, achieved in a challenging sectorial environment, reflect the assertiveness of Vodafone Portugal´s strategic positioning, which is based in three main pillars: customer service, business differentiation and innovation”, says Mário Vaz, CEO of Vodafone Portugal.
Several initiatives reflecting this strategy took place during Q1, such as the launch of the 5G Hub – an open center for knowledge and innovation that will bring together partners from telecommunications, industry, universities, researchers and startups. The goal is to create an ecosystem for the development of new technology to tap the full potential of 5G.
Being the sponsor and the technology partner of Rock-in-Rio Lisboa, Vodafone Portugal ensured the coverage of the event with Active Antennas (Massive MIMO), which will support the introduction of 5G in the future, guaranteeing fast and flawless connections to the 278 thousand people that attended the event.
Also in association with Rock in Rio, Vodafone Portugal launched the Digital Rock City – the transformation of the “city of rock” into a digital city, through the implementation of next generation IoT solutions in the venue. The project reflects a strong emphasis on innovation and the capacity to combine digitalization with music and entertainment.
During Q1, new Wi-Fi solutions came to life: Super Wi-Fi Premium and Super Wi-Fi Extra. Because homes are not all the same and every customer has their specific internet requirements, Vodafone launched solutions that enable the Wi-Fi to reach all rooms in the house with greater speed and range. Also noteworthy was the launch of more Vodafone family smartphones – Smart N9 and Smart N9 Lite – that combine new technology with intelligent security solutions.
